Acute and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

With our experience in both family medicine and neuromusculoskeletal medicine, our clinic is able to provide osteopathic treatment for patients with a vast array of medical conditions.  We can uniquely tailor an appropriate, comprehensive management plan to the individual and their specific needs.   Osteopathic manipulation is a safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions effecting the bones, muscles, and joints of the entire body.  Before considering medications or surgery, osteopathic manipulation should be a first choice for anyone seeking relief from painful or restricted areas of their body.

Newborn and Pediatric Patients

We help manage common pediatric musculoskeletal conditions such as in-toeing and torticollis with gentle osteopathic manipulation techniques .  Gastrointestinal conditions such as constipation and reflux can also benefit from osteopathic manipulation that is modified for the pediatric population.  We also treat newborns with feeding difficulties and plagiocephaly, with extensive experience in these areas.

Prenatal and Postnatal Patients

Pregnant patients in all trimesters can benefit from osteopathic manipulation.  The limitations on medications that can be safely taken during this time combined with the musculoskeletal strains of pregnancy make our services a logical choice for comfort in the prenatal period.  Regular osteopathic care through the pregnancy and especially in the third trimester can alleviate acute pains, help reduce swelling of the extremities along with associated complications, and increase flexibility which may help with the delivery process.  Osteopathic care after delivery addresses body changes that can occur due to ligamentous laxity during pregnancy and delivery.   Our aim is to minimize or eliminate imbalances, helping these patients increase their physical activity level.

Athletes

Our clinic is committed to serve the needs of athletes.  Those suffering from sports injuries who are looking for more time and attention and/or looking for a conservative alternative treatment for their condition will appreciate the osteopathic approach.  From muscle strains, ankle and knee injuries, running injuries, overuse, back pain, neck pain, and much more, our goal is to get you back to your activities as safely and quickly as possible.

In addition, our clinic has a special focus on the underserved skateboarding community.  Our experience with skateboarding recognizes the demands of these athletes and the relative lack of musculoskeletal care they receive in comparison to other sports and athletic activities.

Post Surgical Patients

Our clinic is experienced with care of the post surgical  patient. Treatments are individualized and tailored to the specific  stage of recovery the patient is in. Post surgical patients that have  benefitted from osteopathic treatment include those that have had total  knee and hip replacements, open heart surgery, cesarian section,  abdominal surgeries such as colectomy and tumor resection, craniotomy,  lumbar and cervical fusions, and TMD surgery. We have treated multiple  patients in the immediate recovery period as well as months or years  beyond their surgery. Our goal in treatment is to balance the  individual’s musculoskeletal system as best as possible, keeping in  consideration the duration of time since their operation.  This is done  to minimize postural disturbances that may have been initiated by their  response to surgery, and to address pain and swelling by reducing  barriers to vascular, neurologic, and lymphatic structures.

The Four Tenets of Osteopathic Medicine:

1. The body is a unit: the person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit.

2. The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance.

3. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.

4. Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the principles of body unity, self regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.
